Ringo was a big-budget pop album produced by Richard Perry and featuring Ringo's former Beatles bandmates as songwriters, singers, and instrumentalists. On no single track did all four appear, though George Harrison played the guitars on the John Lennon-penned leadoff track "I'm the Greatest," with Lennon playing piano and singing harmony.
Ringo is most notable for featuring all four former Beatles. John Lennon, George Harrison and Starr featured on the Lennon-penned song I'm The Greatest. Harrison co-wrote and performed on three other songs, while Paul McCartney wrote and performed on Six O'Clock and played kazoo on You're Sixteen. The bulk of the album was recorded from 5 March to 30 April 1973, with overdubbing continuing up to the end of July. From 5 to 27 March sessions took place at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. On 13 March the song I'm The Greatest was recorded in 10 takes, with Starr, Lennon and Harrison all present.
With his third solo album, Ringo, the former Beatles drummer, Ringo Starr, finally put his solo career in gear, showing that he had a lot more to offer than his eccentric first two solo albums, Sentimental Journey and Beaucoup Of Blues, both released in 1970. Issued three years later, on 2 November 1973, Ringo was a far more satisfying record, made on a big budget and featuring an amazing cast of backing musicians. The original 10-track 1973 album was reissued in 1991 as a 13-track CD, the bonus tracks including ‘Early 1970’, Starr’s interesting perspective on The Beatles’ break-up. Ringo was produced by Richard Perry, who had worked with Lennon’s friend Harry Nilsson.
Ringo's "Ringo" album is clearly the peak of his solo career. The team that helped Ringo put this together, including all 3 of his former Beatle-mates, gave Ringo a chance to shine. At the time Ringo was the last ex-Beatle anyone expected to be making hit records; but in 1973 this album and its' 3 singles were all over the charts. If you're a Beatles fan you absolutely must have this in your collection.
Ringo - Inner Gatefold. Ringo" comes in a very impressive colourful, gatefold sleeve which includes a 24 page . The cover paintings are by Tim Bruckner with the front picture having some interesting characters in the crowd including all the musicians heard on the album.
