James Taylor is the self-titled debut studio album by American singer-songwriter James Taylor. Released on December 6, 1968, it was the first recording by a non-British artist released by Apple Records, and would also be Taylor's only release on that label. The album was released under the title First Album on the South African market. The album was produced by Peter Asher, who was A&R head for The Beatles' newly formed label Apple Records
JAMES TAYLOR wraps up a tour with Carole King. A new Jimi Hendrix album makes its debut in the Top 5. Elton John has joined forces with one of his heroes, the extremely hirsute singer-pianist Leon Russell. Fans think music should be free for the taking. Is this 2010 - or 1970? The answer, strangely enough, is: both. Perhaps the least expected, though, is that of the year 1970, just in time for its 40th anniversary.
James Taylor, "That's Why I'm Here"). Joni contributed backing vocals elsewhere on the album. In return, he played guitar on her Blue. As she later told Bill Flanagan of Musician Magazine, "I wrote a song for James Taylor that mentioned his suspenders. And then on his next album he went and wore his bloody suspenders on the cover! Well, then the cat was completely out of the bag!" Oh, Joni, I'm not so sure the suspenders were the giveaway.
Album: Sweet Baby James (1970). Charted: 42 3. Get the Sheet Music License This Song. The stark lyrics about Taylor's depression stand out on Sweet Baby James, which contains mostly lighter, uplifting songs. Taylor was surprised that such a deeply personal song would appeal to listeners, as he didn't think people were interested in his life. The line, "Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground" is a reference to a band Taylor was in called The Flying Machine, which he formed with Danny Kortchmar in 1966. The band recorded some songs and released one single, but split up without issuing an album
James Taylor’s first album was released in 1968 on the Beatles legendary Apple Records label. Since his debut album, James Taylor has released 16 more studio albums. As of this writing, James Taylor’s most recent album entitled Before This World was released in 2015. James Taylor has also released a beautiful Christmas album and two collections of cover songs. By that measure, James Taylor has issued some fantastic albums, and it makes choosing a top ten seem almost unfair. 10 – Before this World. 9 – That’s Why I’m Here. In the mid-1980s, new wave and synths ruled pop radio, but adult contemporary was carving out a big niche in the music world. Taylor’s 1985 effort That’s Why I’m Here fits squarely into that more grown up category, with its meandering melodies, gentle kit drumming, and electric piano lines.
