For much of the late 2000s, Mike Paradinas put his output as µ-Ziq on hold, and instead focused on making his label Planet Mu the home of cutting-edge artists like Kuedo, Venetian Snares, and Starkey. Aside from his Heterotic project with wife Lara Rix-Martin and Gravenhurst, which released its debut, Love & Devotion, early in 2013, Paradinas hadn't released an album of his own since 2007's Duntisbourne Abbots Soulmate Devastation Technique, which channeled the anguish of a breakup in its claustrophobic atmospheres, prickly beats, and barbed melodies

Brace Yourself is an EP by Mike Paradinas released in 1998 under his main moniker µ-Ziq. The title of this EP is derived from the track "Brace Yourself Jason" from µ-Ziq's earlier album Lunatic Harness and features two remixes of the title track itself, "Brace Yourself (Remix)" and "Brace Yourself (Reprise)". Chewed Corners lands itself in a unique field of IDM, though bits and pieces of it are borrowed from the familiar, the most obvious of which is its machine-like percussion that Autechre and Aphex Twin used as a backbone for their best creations. But the striking difference comes from how energized, dense, and modern the overall aesthetic is. The synth-work is usually more colorful and always more bombastic than what's typically expected out of the genre, though the album is still rhythmically entrancing with its percussive precision – which has also received a modern upgrade.

-Ziq will release Chewed Corners on June 25th. Brighton-based Mike Paradinas is better known these days as the founder and manager of the adventurous Planet Mu imprint, where he's signed albums by Machinedrum, Kuedo and Ital in the recent past. He was relatively quiet on the production front up until the beginning of this year, but has quite a history in dance music-under his µ-Ziq alias (amidst countless others), Paradinas was a staple of the UK IDM scene, working with Aphex Twin and appearing on labels like Rephlex. The press release describes the album as "a suite of fourteen retro-futurist tracks, created with a lush, analogue sounding palette," including hints at footwork and 80s pop music.
