The Obsidian Conspiracy is the seventh and final studio album by American progressive metal band Nevermore. The album was released on June 8, 2010 in North America by Century Media and was released at the end of May in Europe. The band's previous album, This Godless Endeavor was released in 2005, making the five-year gap the longest between two consecutive Nevermore albums.

The Obsidian Conspiracy' will leave fans of Nevermore fully satisfied that their last album was merely the beginning. The album opens with 'The Termination Proclamation', an opener in the style of 'Born' or 'Narcosynthesis', rife with twisting Jeff Loomis riffs and those otherworldly n vocals from Warrel Dane. It's difficult to pull a specific song or moment from 'The Obsidian Conspiracy' as a definite highlight; this is a package of consummate quality and ability unrivalled in the progressive metal world. Nevermore have made it more difficult this time for their fans, with more complex arrangements and extra strings to their bow (there is nothing much in their back catalogue like 'The Blue Marble and the New Soul').

Jeff Loomis, one of the best guitarists in metal right now, still comes up with good riffs and his solos are like on every other Nevermore release: Flawless.

The Obsidian Conspiracy, on its System Slaves, is like taking the vocalist’s, Warrel Dane, solo project, while letting it drop deep into Loomis’s shred solo venture. Together, while letting Dane’s world take the lead, it is a new type of a Nevermore album. Their told story is something that will take time to comprehend, yet, it is always a treat to come back to it. Some stories are better off, yet, the stories of Nevermore, as their past writings (Dane’s writings) are something to reach out repeatedly

Nevermore have really done this to themselves by setting such a high standard in the first place. If this album were released by any number of other artists, it would be highly regarded and people would take very little issue with it. Unfortunately for the band, Nevermore releases aren’t judged by anything other than other Nevermore albums. When viewed as a part of the band’s discography, there is much left to be desired and very little reason to choose this over any of their past albums
