The Bells of St. Mary's (1945) is an American drama film, produced and directed by Leo McCarey and starring Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman. Written by Dudley Nichols and based on a story by Leo McCarey, the film is about a priest and a nun who, despite their good-natured rivalry, try to save their school from being shut down. The character Father O'Malley had been previously portrayed by Crosby in the 1944 film Going My Way, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor
Collectables is to be commended for gathering together nearly an hour's worth of Andrews solo and Andrews & the Hearts recordings, many of which are fine examples of the doo wop style. But the release could have been better assembled and annotated. The Bells of St. Mary's.

Lee Andrews & The Hearts, Lee Andrews (center), circa 1957. Lee Andrews, lead singer of the Philadelphia doo-wop group Lee Andrews & the Hearts, died Wednesday. Andrews and the Hearts formed in 1953 and subsequently recorded singles for labels like Chess, United Artists and Gotham. Their biggest hits came in 1957 and 1958 with Long Lonely Nights (Andrews and the Hearts performed the song on the fifth national episode of American Bandstand), Tear Drops and Try the Impossible, their last charting single. After a brief breakup in 1960, Andrews and an amorphous lineup of the Hearts – renamed at times as the 5 Hearts or the Famous Hearts – continued recording together until 1968. Andrews’ last recorded project was a soul group called Congress Alley,.
Title: The Bells of St. Mary's (1945). Father O'Malley, the unconventional priest from 'Going My Way', continues his work for the Catholic Church. This time he is sent to St. Mary's, a run-down parochial school on the verge of condemnation. He and Sister Benedict work together in an attempt to save the school, though their differing methods often lead to good-natured disagreements.
