Lee Andrews & the Hearts scored only three hits, "Long Lonely Nights," "Tear Drops," and "Try the Impossible," in 1957-1958, so this collection contains plenty of the group's (and solo act Andrews') also-rans along with the successes. Liner notes author Marv Goldberg contributes an affectionate biography that traces the group's career, but doesn't help the consumer determine the sources of the actual recordings contained on the album, which is notable since Andrews & the Hearts re-recorded many of their songs.
Lee Andrews & the Hearts was an American doo-wop quintet from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, formed in 1953. The group consisted of Lee Andrews (lead), Roy Calhoun (first tenor), Thomas "Butch" Curry (second tenor), Ted Weems (baritone) and Wendell Calhoun (bass). Lee Andrews was born Arthur Lee Andrews Thompson, in 1936, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He died on March 16, 2016. They recorded on the Gotham, Rainbow, Mainline, Chess, United Artists, Grand and Gowen labels.

Lowell Lee Andrews (September 21, 1940 – November 30, 1962) was a University of Kansas sophomore convicted of the murders of his parents and his sister on November 28, 1958, a crime for which he was later executed. In reality, the 18-year-old entertained fantasies of poisoning his family and moving to Chicago, Illinois to become a gangster and professional hitman.
