13. Black and White Episode.
Andrea Parkins’ accordion breathes moody passages, functioning much like an organ might in this trio as Briggan Kraus cuts the drone on alto and Kenny Wollesen provides momentum on drums. She’ll suddenly spring into action, creating havoc on the keyboard or running full gallop on piano.
Welcome to our Internet store. For over 35 years, we have been dealing in avant, experimental, off-beat, progressive and rehearsal intensive rock, jazz, and contemporary music as well as many other undefinable musics from across the globe. Our label, Cuneiform Records, was founded in 1984.
Parkins' first solo, Cast Iron Fact (Knitting Factory, 1995) displayed a curious fusion of jazz, rock and avantgarde.
Background information. Recently Andrea Parkins has been developing a series of interactive sound and image works inspired by the structures of Rube Goldberg's circuitous machines. Describing this organizational approach Stephen Bezan remarked: the individual sounds manipulated by Parkins seem to interact and influence the outcome of the other, crafting a goal-oriented structure based on timbre, not harmony or rhythm.
Andrea Parkins is an American composer, sound artist, performer and improvisational musician based in New York. She is known for her inventive explorations on the electric accordion, generative sound processing, and arrangements of objects and sound. Parkins received a BFA from Tufts University and MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University.
