The 1996 Mount Everest disaster occurred on 10–11 May 1996, when eight people caught in a blizzard died on Mount Everest during attempts to descend from the summit. Over the entire season, 12 people died trying to reach the summit, making it the deadliest season on Mount Everest at the time and the third deadliest behind the 16 fatalities of the 2014 Mount Everest avalanche and the 22 deaths resulting from avalanches caused by the April 2015 Nepal earthquake.

Huddie Ledbetter was not a straight blues singer, rather he was a songster, a human jukebox who sang folk music, the blues, children’s songs, prison work songs and field hollers, spirituals and gospel, becoming the embodiment of what is now known as Americana. His versatile voice was unusually resonant and powerful, helping him to stamp his identity on the songs in his repertoire. It could be haunting on Black Girl (Where Did You Sleep Last Night) and joyful on children’s song Sally Walker.

Offering a quite a few more songs than other budget-priced compilations, Mount Everest of Blues Singers serves up thirty tracks worth of folk, blues, and prison tunes both traditional and penned by Leadbelly himself. Released on Rev-Ola Records, this collection features thirteen selections from the artist's 1941 RCA recordings, including essential hits like "Midnight Special", "Alabama Bound", "Goodnight, Irene", and "Easy Rider".
