By far, best album by The Who. Absolutely undervalued. Top 3 best albums ever, possibly the best. It's reoccurring melodies and heartbreaking story of conformity and insanity, come together beatifully. Pete Townshend made the definitive story of alienated youth. just the sad opening of . 5 draws you in and breaks your heart. this is a must if you have not heard this record. This is a really great live album, even if the magic bus is 8 minutes, not even mention my generation totaling a whopping 14 minutes and 27 seconds long. Underrated album with some excellent songs. Perhaps not their best work but well worth a listen the whole way through. 11 The Kids Are Alright.
The Who have been with several labels over the years. In the United Kingdom and elsewhere outside North America, they were signed originally to Brunswick Records. In 1966, they moved to Polydor Records and took the rights to their Brunswick recordings with them. They created and moved to Track Records the following year with distribution by Polydor. They left Track in 1974 and returned to Polydor directly, remaining with the label ever since.
The album Tommy turned The Who into a Supergroup but it really made Roger Daltrey into the quintessential front man. It also led Roger to an acting career because it became apparent that he could identify with the lead character and perform with such passion. So the Who MVP goes to Roger Daltrey for the song Go To The Mirror! and the definitive version is on the album Tommy. The Who influenced many bands that came after including the punk era which would begin a few years after the release of the album Quadrophenia. The album also spurred resurgence in the mod rock scene in England as well since the album’s plot revolved around the story of mod and rocker gangs fighting in the 60’s. The Who MVP for the song The Punk Meets the Godfather is John Entwistle and the definitive version is on the album Quadrophenia.
Since they are vintage 1970 recordings and somehow fit perfectly into the album sonically, I have included them here. Also without those three, the album ceases to be two 45-minute discs.

Listen to those early Who singles and album cuts; many of them are simple, two-and-half-minute stories – "A Legal Matter," "Pictures of Lily", "Tattoo" and (most importantly) "I’m a Bo. When the idea of a rock opera was just a glimmer in Pete’s eye, he had the idea of a larger musical piece called Quads that was set in a future when parents could select the genders of their children . In his autobiography, Who I Am, Pete discussed the perfect storm that led to the creation of the rock opera Tommy, which was released on May 23, 1969. For one, the album was becoming more important than the single in rock and roll (thanks to bands like the Beatles, the Beach Boys and, yes, the Who).

The label is "Track Record" with only a small Geffen insignia which leads me to believe this was farmed out to a second rate mastering house.
