Didier Lockwood (11 February 1956 – 18 February 2018) was a French jazz violinist. He played in the progressive rock/jazz fusion band Magma in the 1970s and was known for his use of electric amplification and experimentation on different sounds on the electric violin. In 1979, Lockwood released his first album as a leader, New World, and subsequently recorded more than 20 albums. In 1994, he moved to New York City for two years. During that time he recorded two albums, New York Rendez Vous and Storyboard.

Following the album's release, A Lot Like Birds formed a core around five of the musicians involved: Franzino and Ben Wiacek on guitar, Michael Littlefield on bass, Joe Arrington on drums, and Cory Lockwood on vocals Addition of Kurt Travis and Conversation Piece (2011).

New Zealand-born American composer Annea Lockwood belongs to the venerable tradition of American experimentalists that includes Henry Cowell, Harry Partch, John Cage, and Pauline Oliveros. This CD includes two of her works from the 1990s, a reissue of a 1992 recording of Thousand Year Dreaming, and the first release of Floating World. The first piece, conceived specifically for the musicians who perform it here, was inspired by the Paleolithic cave paintings of Lascaux.
