Parquet Courts perfected their guitar clang on 2013’s Light Up Gold – if all they wanted to do was make the exact same album again, most of us would have been delighted. But these Brooklyn dudes go even deeper on Sunbathing Animal. They’ve outgrown the Pavement comparisons – these songs make you wonder if you’re hearing early Wire jam with Creedence while Thurston Moore brews the tea. Sunbathing Animal is a raw and vague album. The lyrics here seem to be ambicious and really emotional. Almost all Parquet Courts albums have a really personal and introspective lyricism (apart from Wide Awake, which reflects the spirit of collectivism). Parquet Courts, also known as Parkay Quarts, is an American rock band from New York City. The band consists of Andrew Savage (vocals, guitar), Austin Brown (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Sean Yeaton (bass) and Max Savage (drums). The band released their debut album, American Specialties, as a limited cassette release, in 2011. The band's second studio album, Light Up Gold (2012), was initially released on Savage's Dull Tools label and later reissued on What's Your Rupture? in 2013.
