Stiff Little Fingers are a punk rock band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. They formed in 1977, at the height of the Troubles. They started out as a schoolboy band called Highway Star (named after the Deep Purple song), doing rock covers, until they discovered punk. They split up after six years and four albums, although they reformed five years later, in 1987. Despite major personnel changes, they are still touring and recording.

In 1987, the ex-members of Stiff Little Fingers weren't really intent on re-forming; just on taking to the stage to make enough money to get them back home to Belfast for their holidays. But the approving roar of the London crowd that greeted their admittedly ramshackle "Alternative Ulster" surely helped convince the group to come back together for good. This reissue of the original Live and Loud! album retitles the set after the band's powerhouse remodeling of the Beastie Boys' hit, but as fans had come to expect, it's their phenomenal remake of the Wailers "Johnny Was" that ends the show with an emotional punch straight to the gut.
