Alannah Myles is the self-titled debut album by Canadian singer Alannah Myles, released on March 28, 1989. It includes the worldwide hit single "Black Velvet". The album was a big seller worldwide, and reached number one for two weeks in her native Canada, number 5 on the Billboard 200 in the US and number 3 in the UK Albums Chart, and overall sold in excess of six million records. The album cover comes from a photoshoot by Canadian photographer Deborah Samuel.

By the time Alannah Myles recorded her fourth album, Arival, she had faded completely from the pop spotlight. Neither Rockinghorse nor Alannah made much of an impression, so Arival, in some ways, was a make-or-break album - it would either jump-start her career or grind it to a halt. Since so much was at stake, Myles did something she never had before - she concentrated and recorded a well-constructed, cohesive album. Of course, she doesn't stray from her radio-ready, blues-tinged AOR formula, but she does tone down her tendency for histrionic vocals, and there aren't as many dull.

The fourth album by Alannah Myles, that bluesy-rock woman with the image of a nomad troubadour, fiercely independent, someone's who's drunk deep from life's bittersweet water, singing songs of the nightlife, and still has a "life goes on" mindset. She gets some notable names on songwriting on her sole go-around on Ark-21 Records, in which she sticks to her usual style without much experimenting that she did in Alannah.
