A khanate or khaganate is a political entity ruled by a khan or khagan. This political entity is typical for people from the Eurasian Steppe and it can be equivalent to tribal chiefdom, principality, kingdom or empire. After Genghis Khan established appanages for his family in the Mongol Empire during his rule (1206-1227), his sons, daughters, and grandsons inherited separate sections of the empire.

Khanate by Khanate, released 29 April 2016 1. Pieces of Quiet 2. Skin Coat 3. Torching Koroviev 4. Under Rotting Sky 5. No Joy 6. No Joy (remix) This is music about power - the exaltation, manifestation, the consolidation, and the earth-shattering use of sound entwined with power as means to the insular mythologies of Khanate. Call it anything you like, as long as the neologism focuses on the gravitational axis of power and sound.

On some copies of the demo, "Pieces of Quiet" was titled "Quiet Time". It was also released on LP with 900 black and 100 transsmoke 220g records being pressed.

Khanate, based in New York City, NY, United States, formed in the year 2000 with the intention of setting new standards for pain and ugliness in the doom metal genre. Many people call them sludge, drone or simply extreme doom metal.

But, Khanate realizes the difference between "good" dismal and "bad" dismal. Their songs are memorable, if unsettling - "Pieces of Quiet" and "Skin Coat" are as close as this kind of discordant, snail-paced music comes to being "catchy" - and they know how to pace their movements well enough to keep their ten-plus minute songs from wearing out their welcome.
