Love Story is the third studio album by American rapper Yelawolf. It was released on April 21, 2015, by Interscope Records, Shady Records and Slumerican. The album was described by Yelawolf as a more passionate album than his debut album. Recording process took place primarily in Nashville, Tennessee from 2012 to 2015. The production on the album was handled by Yelawolf himself, along with Eminem (who also served as the executive producer), Malay and WLPWR, among others

But with Love Story there’s a sense of self-awareness and confidence that seemed to have been missing before. Really highlighting his rural Southern upbringing on the LP, it seems that Yelawolf is more certain of his artistry and anchored in his country roots than ever before. WLPWR serves as the backbone for the majority of this album, crafting up 10 of the 17 tracks. WLPWR and Yelawolf very clearly established the sound for the album as a unit and created a cohesive flow throughout. Em joined in on Best Friend which is undeniably one of the top tracks on Love Story. Em goes in on the track and spits for nearly three minutes, making it the longest record on the project.

On Love Story, he’s (mostly) kept his promise. The album layers the trailer park swagger of his early work over rootsy country music instrumentals, and it’s largely successful. Songs like Till It’s Gone and Heartbreak feature the Alabama rapper delivering punchy, personal verses over twanging guitars and pianos. You gasping Yelawolf/You’d better pump your fucking breaks, asshole/You’ve got the nerve to talk wanna talk about heartbreak? he asserts on the self-doubting Heartbreak. If Love Story had ended at its title song (track 13), it could have been a truly great project. Unfortunately, much like on Radioactive, Yela overstuffs the ending with a number of downbeat tracks. Songs like Johnny Cash, Sky’s the Limit, and Disappear are all fine on their own, but the album simply doesn’t need all of them.
