George Szell - The Complete Columbia Album Collection. Kertesz recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra of the Dvorak symphonies are widely regarded as the definitive interpretation of the Dvorak cycle and their recording of the Requiem in 1968 is held in the same regard.
Ed: Dvoo k: Complete Symphonies; Tone Poems; Overtures; Requiem. I would have thought the math was obvious: Each symphony complete on one CD - actually Symphonies 7 and 8 would be on CD7, with CDs 8 and 9 devoted to Symphony 9 and the Requiem. Shorter works distributed throughout the remaining CDs. Oh, well. NEVER-BEFORE HEARD MUSIC: The scores for all Symphonies except 3, 7 and 8 have first movement exposition repeats. Kertesz was the first conductor to observe them all.
Carnival Overture, O. 2. István Kertész, London Symphony Orchestra. 6. Scherzo capriccioso, O. Muj Domov Overture, O. 2 (My Country). Track Listing - Disc 7. Sample.
Dvorak: My Home Overture, Op. 62. 9:36. Dvorak: Hussite Overture, Op. 67. 14:14. Dvorak, Antonin (1841-1904).
His place was taken in 1968 by Erik Smith for Dvořák’s D minor Serenade for wind instruments and by Christopher Raeburn for the composer’s Requiem Mass, and in 1970 by David Harvey, who came to Kingsway Hall as producer of Kertész’s final studio date with Dvořák, an album of symphonic poems and overtures, The Water Goblin and My Home among. Although Kenneth Wilkinson was responsible for maintaining the consistency and finesse of the celebrated Decca sound for most of Kertész’s Dvořák sessions, the series benchmark was set in 1963 by Arthur Lilley and Michael Mailes. Lilley was known not.
