Dark Night of the Soul is a studio album by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, featuring collaborations by numerous notable musicians. Its release was postponed due to a legal dispute with the album's distributor EMI. The album was commercially successful in the United Kingdom, and was well-received by music critics.

For the album by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, see Dark Night of the Soul (album). Dark Night of the Soul (Spanish: La noche oscura del alma) is a poem written by the 16th-century Spanish mystic and poet St. John of the Cross. Alternative rock band Sparklehorse, along with producer Danger Mouse and director and visual artist David Lynch, collaborated with a number of other artists on an audio-visual project titled Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse Present: Dark Night of the Soul. The phrase has also been used as a song title by several other bands and music artists, including Steve Bell, The Get Up Kids, Ulver, Mayhem, and Shai Linne in The Solus Christus Project.

No Danger Mouse project arrives without at least some slight commotion. In the case of Dark Night of the Soul, it involves a familiar-sounding dust up with EMI that recalls the dispute that ultimately led to the producer’s Grey Album of 2004 never being officially released. Are the producer and singer-songwriter the most well-connected people in pop? A mysterious promotional poster for their forthcoming project promises more star cameos than Live Ai. .David Lynch, Iggy Pop, Gruff Rhys, members of the Strokes, the Shins, the Flaming Lips and Pixies will contribute to the next album by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse.

Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse may say that it’s about anger and revenge, but their music just holds something. When other people hear it something comes to life in their brains. And then their lyrics come and a particular way to sing them, but it all starts with the music.
