Lori McKenna (née Giroux; born December 22, 1968) is an American folk, Americana, and country music singer, songwriter, and performer. In 2016, she was nominated for the Grammy Award for Song of the Year and won Best Country Song for co-writing the hit single "Girl Crush" performed by Little Big Town. In 2017, she again won Best Country Song at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for writing "Humble and Kind" performed by Tim McGraw
Unglamorous is the first major label debut album from country/folk singer Lori McKenna. After three songs written by McKenna appeared on Faith Hill's 2005 album, Fireflies, Warner Bros. Records re-released McKenna's 2004 album Bittertown (her fourth independent release). Unglamorous, however, is the first album of McKenna's recorded specifically for a major label. The album was released August 14, 2007 on StyleSonic Records through Warner Bros.
Unglamorous marks a new stage in the career of Lori McKenna, a gifted contemporary singer/songwriter from Massachusetts who makes her major-label debut here. Her previous releases - Paper Wings and Halo (2000), Pieces of Me (2001), The Kitchen Tapes (2003), and Bittertown (2004) - were spare, masterfully written, and sometimes painfully intimate.
Unglamorous (CD, Album, Promo, Adv).
Unglamorous (Standard Version). Fans of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw will flock to Massachusetts singer-songwriter Lori McKenna's fifth album for obvious reasons-McGraw coproduced it with his longtime shaper Byron Gallimore, Hill recorded three of McKenna's songs for Fireflies, and McKenna snared a guest slot on McGraw and Hill's 2007 tour. But longtime McKenna followers may approach this-her first album recorded expressly for a major label-with trepidation, fearing the commercial push has tamed the fearlessness and precision of her writing and diminished the quiet power of her folkie vibe.
Lori McKenna is one of the best songwriters I've heard in a long time, and her songs sound best when she sings. Although Faith Hill did a fantastic job with three of McKenna's songs, I have to give the kudo's to the writer of those songs (Fireflies, If You Ask, Stealing Kisses) off of her Fireflies Album, Lori McKenna.
