Sly & Robbie ‎– Rhythm Killers. Label: Island Records ‎– 208 318, 4th & Broadway ‎– 208 318. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album. Starting off with a pat take on the Ohio Players hit "Fire," the album mostly plods along on one tired electronic groove after another, taking in a bit of early hip-hop and experimental downtown flair along the way. No reggae in sight really, just a valiant venture gone away. Reply See 1 reply Notify me 2 Helpful.

Sly & Robbie have always been one of the most progressive production outfits to emerge from the reggae world, so a crossover collection such as this should be no surprise. The only problem is that it's not really what one might have hoped for. Aiming at the R&B sector, the drum'n'bass tandem team up with Bill Laswell to funk it up Taxi Gang-style with all the requisite synth drums and rockin' guitar solos.

The album features guest musicians Herbie Hancock, Bob Dylan, Afrika Bambaataa, and Manu DiBango. Village Voice critic Robert Christgau called it a "world-music mishmash".

This is nonstop funk-powered by world pop's greatest rhythm section, which happens to be Jamaican, and filled out by a chauvinistic variation on Bill Laswell's usual international brigade-Daniel Ponce and Aiyb Dieng are the only furriners, although Henry Threadgill, Nicky Skopelitis, and . aren't exactly from the same neighborhood

Amazing record. Very unique. Perfects it's style of hardcore dance dub or what ever it is. My favourite Sly & Robbie. 5/5
