Unhistories by Singer, released 25 March 2008 1. Slow Ghosts 2. Divining 3. Please, Tell The Justices We're Fine 4. Oh Dusty 5. Dumb Smoke 6. Party Lessons 7. Mauvais Sang The only album this year to come with a playset. You can pretend you're locked in a room with no doors, but many voices and rhythms. These are familiar names, but they play unfamiliar sounds on this dreamy maze of an record. Footing can be found, but not for long.
Maple continue to make thought provoking music. This is exactly why I bought the album. It was in the clearance section for 99 cents and it was on Drag City. For 99 cents and a solid label backing it the album was worth the risk. Unhistories is a creepy math rock record. The vocals are in an odd falsetto and reminiscent of TV on the Radio.

The result is SINGER, and they sound quite a bit like . Maple with some understandable twists. Like Todd and Adam’s past albums, Unhistories traffics in spindly guitar passages, horror-house drumming, and a general feeling of nausea. This time around, however, things are laid out a bit differently. Lowe’s bass is a fresh addition and seems to give Ben and Todd a chance to stretch out in slightly more conventionally classic rock ways; the central riff of Party Lessons could be on a Hendrix record.
