Guitar Forms is a 1965 album by Kenny Burrell, featuring arrangements by Gil Evans. However, the presence of the Evans' orchestra is somewhat misleading, as it appears on only five of the album's nine tracks; the most ambitious of these is the nearly 10-minute "Lotus Land. Three tracks are blues numbers in a small group format, and there is one solo performance: "Prelude Downstairs" (Elvin Jones) – 2:53. Lotus Land" (Cyril Scott) – 9:38. Terrace Theme" (Joe Benjamin) – 4:02.

Kenny Burrell is just such a person. In fact he’s more – he’s living history, past, present and future. His credentials are voluminous and accomplishments staggering, and he hasn’t stopped. He has recorded at least 108 albums as a band leader and is today, at age 82, still on top of his game. His latest offering is Special Requests, a live set from 2012, ; which reached on the jazz charts in September and was the most-reported jazz album on 51 radio stations

Though the jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell is associated mostly with Blue Note-based hard bop and soul-jazz (he had a hit with the funky "Chile con Carne"), he is also a musician of considerable artistry. Witness his landmark 1965 collaboration with Gil Evans, Guitar Forms, which rivals anything the arranger did with Miles Davis. Indeed, the track "Lotus Land" has a bolero form very reminiscent of Sketches of Spain. There is no stinting on the blues here, either, as evidenced on "Downstairs" and "Terrace Theme.
