Before this release, Isabelle Faust had made several very fine recordings - her Dvorák discs were deemed delightful - and several good but not great recordings - her Schubert and Schumann discs were judged well played but oddly too deracinated to be entirely effective - but this 2006 disc was arguably her best yet. Of course, the coupling did not go down especially well with every listener: the aesthetic distance between Ernest Chausson's ardently late romantic Poème from 1896 and Jolivet's impressionistically post-modernist Violin Concerto from 1972 proved too vast for every fa. .

Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. For the East Berlin orchestra founded in 1923, see Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 1956 it was renamed the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (ester Berlin), and in 1993 took on its present name. Between the chief conductorships of Lorin Maazel and Riccardo Chailly, the orchestra did not have a single chief conductor. The major conductors who worked with the orchestra during this period, from 1976 to 1982, were Erich Leinsdorf, Eugen Jochum, Gerd Albrecht, Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Neville Marriner. Performers: Isabelle Faust (violin) Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin Marko Letonja (conductor). But Faust, with the dedicated help of Marko Letonja and the Orchester Berlin, did everything she could to make a cogent and compelling program of the disparate works. With her warm, round tone; bright, vivacious technique; and supple but persuasive sense of phrasing, Faust infused both works with equal measures of music, color, and light, and thereby drew a long, undulating line from Chausson's lush lyricism to Jolivet's austere lyricism.

Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin. Jolivet: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. Composers: Ernest Chausson. 04. Concerto pour violon et orchestre: III. Allegramente. Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, Marko Letonja and Isabelle Faust. Please write a minimum of 10 characters.

Isabelle Faust plays it with a mixture of authoritative power, weighty dignity and hypnotic grace, while conductor Marko Letonja coaxes frenziedly glutinous sounds from the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester. The concerto is coupled with a performance of Chausson's Poème, which has rarely been bettered in its ecstatic sweep. The Jolivet may be an acquired taste, but the Chausson is a must for lovers of the gorgeous and opulent.
