This Testament album combines primarily popular Russian orchestral works from several 1950's-era recordings, both mono and stereo, that Igor Markevich conducted with the Philharmonia Orchestra, in London at the Abbey Road studios. The one 'outlier' among these selections is the waltz movement by Igor Stravinsky, just shy of 2 minutes. But otherwise, the album stays with familiar works by Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky, although there is a bit of a twist in one of the Tchaikovsky ballet suites, of which more anon.
