Xen is the debut studio album by Venezuelan electronic musician Arca, released on 4 November 2014 through Mute Records. The album was recorded over a largely improvised six-month period in 2014. The title of the album is a reference to Ghersi's "feminine spirit" as portrayed in the album artwork and videos
Arca - Xen The tracks Alejandro Ghersi makes as Arca rarely cohere to normal ideas of structure or rhythm. His early Stretch releases for UNO made the human voice sound malleable and sickly. Then, of course, came Kanye West's Yeezus-where Ghersi could be heard in the evil, warped snarl of tracks like "I'm In It" and "Send It Up"-and his equally challenging work with FKA twigs. The album is named after Ghersi's alter-ego: "Xen is not really a boy and it's not really a girl, and her mere existence is kind of repulsive and attractive at once," he recently told Fader. It's that contrast of beauty and ugliness that Ghersi explores over these contorting, confusing 40 minutes.
Xen is the debut album by Venezuelan electronic music producer Arca, released on November 3, 2014 via Mute. The two work in tandem on various projects while Ghersi has also been a co-producer for Björk and Kanye West Contents.

Album · 2014 · 15 Songs. 24-year-old Venezuelan electronica artist-producer Arca, aka, Alejandro Ghersi, did his highest-profile work on Kanye West’s Yeezus, but solidified his dominance with the mastery of sound heard on his &&&&& mixtape. Xen is his second official full-length work.
Arca’s own debut album, Xen, comes roughly a year after &&&&&, a free mixtape that bounced dizzyingly between urban harshness and increasing symphonic elegance; comparisons between the two works are inevitable. Xen finds Arca moving subtly away from the disoriented breakbeats and vocal samples that grounded his work in hip-hop. Even though there are many vestigial hip-hop elements, Xen feels like new ground. Piano keys open Held Apart. Halfway through the title track, a sad sweetness creeps in.
