Berlioz: Grande Symphonie Funebre et Triomphale. Gossec: Symphonie Militaire, Marche Lugubre. Francois-Joseph Gossec conducted and composed for the band of the Garde Nationale of the French Revolution. As the liner notes say, the Symphonie Militaire is in the style of the Classical woodwind serenades. Ironically, then, this short (only 5 minutes) two-movement work sounds more appropriate for the royal court rather than for the ill-bred, unwashed masses of the Revolution.

Australian WRC 1st pressing, sourced from original stampers and featuring unique sleeve art. Mono and stereo versions have an identical sleeve and the same number on the back (T/4020) - the mono version has "T-4020" on beige 'strobe' labels, while the stereo has "ST-4020" on green 'strobe' labels. There is a printed "stereo" rosette on the back, and the mono has a gold sticker with "mono" placed over this (though these tend to drop off with age - as has happened with the copy scanned here). The first pressing has the short-lived address combination beginning with "393":393 Flinders Lane Melbourne
