And Andalusia is at the heart of the music of Manuel de Falla, Isaac Aleniz, and Enrique Granados. When he played the work in Paris his success was enormous, and he was urged to rework the score into an opera of the same name, which premiered in New York in 1916, and for which the Intermezzo, heard here, was written. Albeniz’ Suite Espanola for piano originated in 1886 with just three movements-Sevilla, Granada and Cataluna.

The Conservatoire de Paris is a college of music and dance founded in 1795. Currently known as the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP), it is situated in the avenue Jean Jaurès in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, France. The Conservatoire offers instruction in music and dance, drawing on the traditions of the "French School".

A champion of Spanish music, Rafael Frühbeck De Burgos has recorded the complete works of Manuel de Falla, as well as notable recordings of non-Spanish music, like Orff’s Carmina Burana and Mozart’s Requiem. With a recording career spanning over five decades, many of his early recordings were made for EMI in the 1960s and this atmospheric recording of Spanish favourites is a splendid example  . It also features the original album artwork.

Notes

Australian WRC pressing, sourced from original stampers and featuring unique sleeve art. Mono and stereo versions have an identical sleeve and the same number on the back (T/4018) - the mono version has "T-4018" on beige 'strobe' labels, while the stereo has "ST-4018" on green 'strobe' labels. There is a printed "stereo" rosette on the back, and the mono has a gold sticker with "mono" placed over this (though these tend to drop off with age). Issued again in April 1966 (possibly with 299 replacing the short-lived 393 as the Flinders Lane number).
