The orchestra closes with the album's lone standard, Sammy Fain, Irving Kahal's sentimental "I'll Be Seeing You," showcasing guest tenor Rick Margitza who also solos superbly on the amiable "Triste. The ensemble welcomes three guests on the spicy opener, Corea's "Armando's Rhumba," but none of them solos, leaving that assignment in the capable hands of Ed Maina (piccolo), Ed Calle (soprano sax) and pianist Jim Gasior. The first jazz record I bought was Dizzy on the French Riviera. My advice to new listeners is to keep an open mind. Arranger Dan Bonsanti is back with The 14 Jazz Orchestra following up the previously issued successful Nothing Hard Is Ever Easy. The big band is contemporary and creative with four reeds, three trumpets, two trombones, piano, guitar, bass, and drums. It’s comprised of alumni from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, touching seven decades. Each member is active in South Florida as jazz and versatile studio musicians and some are also educators.

Every member of the 14 Jazz Orchestra is a graduate of the University of Florida’s prestigious Frost School of Music. Nine of the album’s themes were arranged by Bonsanti. Special guests include Randy Brecker, Danny Gottlieb, and Mark Egan. Proceedings start with Chick Corea’s Armando’s Rhumba, with Ed Maina’s piccolo solo as a highlight. Firewater features guest tenor Mark Colby and trumpeter Cisco Dimas
