Styx is the self-titled debut album by American rock band Styx. It was released in 1972. The band started as a cover band who played events such as weddings and birthday parties. They called themselves "The Tradewinds" in 1961, when the band was composed of, at 12 years of age, Chuck and John Panozzo, who played bass guitar and drums, respectively, and their neighbor, 14-year-old Dennis DeYoung on keyboards, accordion and vocals.

Styx rose to fame in the late 70s and early 80s as pioneers of the pomp rock genre. This album is a significant collection of the band’s most prolific and golden era, featuring various styles from power ballads like ‘Babe’ which reached number 6 on the UK charts in 1980 and in the US in 1979 to US hits ‘Lady’( 1975), ‘Come Sail Away’ ( 1977) and ‘Show Me The Way’ ( 1990) to rock gems. including ‘Renegade’ ( 1978) and ‘Too Much Time On My Hands’ ( 1981). Equinox is the fifth album by Styx, released in December 1975. The album was the band's first release for A&M Records (with whom they had signed earlier in 1975, after the late unexpected success of the 1973 single "Lady"). The album also marked the final appearance of original Styx guitarist John Curulewski who left the band to spend time with his family, abruptly following the release of Equinox.
