In almost any interview with Three Dog Night vocalist Chuck Negron, the conversation inevitably turns to drugs, their abuse, and redemption. Negron famously became a heroin addict at the height of his career, but eventually emerged from it in the 1980s, and you could say he’s been on a mission to warn others ever since. He speaks very frankly and openly about it and doesn’t shy away from the conversation

Three Dog Night (also known as One) is the self-titled debut album by American rock band Three Dog Night. The album was originally released by Dunhill Records on October 16, 1968. The album is known for featuring the band's top 5 hit single, "One", although it was not on the original releases of the album. The album made the Top 20 on the albums charts in the United States and Canada. It has been reissued multiple times by Dunhill, MCA, and Geffen record labels.

But when Cory stood on stage at NBC, at the rehearsal for the Dog TV special, and crooned, Ooh, she may be weary, a couple of blacks in the bleachers, there to see special guest Roberta Flack, sat up straight and took notice, and nodded along. Three Dog Night then got Gabriel Mekler as producer and took less than a week to put together their first full album, live in the studio. On the second album, all the Dogs became arrangers, sparked friction, and Mekler gave way to engineer Podolor, the son of the owners of American studios. Richie Podolor - flashback! - played guitar on Bonnie Guitar’s Fifties hit, Dark Moon.

Three Dog Night had to wait three months to see their debut LP, released on 16 October 1968, on the Billboard chart. It was the groundwork for huge success. The first single from the album, ‘Nobody,’ failed to reach the Hot 100, while the second, a version of the much-covered ‘Try A Little Tenderness,’ went to No. 29. That was four places below the 1967 peak of what, for many, was the definitive cover of the song, by Otis Redding. But it was the third single from Three Dog Night that really announced their arrival
