The Soul Sessions is the debut studio album by English singer and songwriter Joss Stone. It was released on 16 September 2003 by S-Curve Records. The album consists of cover versions of soul songs from the 1960s and 1970s, in addition to a cover of The White Stripes' 2001 song "Fell in Love with a Girl". In 2004, The Soul Sessions was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and was nominated for a MOBO Award for Best Album.

First time around, the intent was to prove that teenage Joss had soul bona fides, but in 2012 the purpose of The Soul Sessions, Vol. 2 is to signal how she's done messing around with fleeting fashions and is getting back down to the real business. Stone doesn't dig deep into the crates this time around, nor does she stick to deep soul; she chooses to mine hits from the early '70s, favoring songs by the Dells, the Chi-Lites, and Sylvia, giving these smooth tunes a bit of a polished Southern spin.
Joss Stone was barely legal to drive to the studio when she began recording these '60s soul gems. It turned out she was a natural. With her energetic, smoky voice, she boils the originals down to an essential groove, even turning the one outlier, The White Stripes' "Fell in Love With a Girl," into a smooth funk jam with the help of Questlove. The singer saves her best work, though, for the closer, a patient, nearly a cappella take on "For the Love of You. The Soul Sessions Joss Stone.
The Soul Sessions is an album of R&B covers by singer/songwriter Joss Stone. The 2003 release was originally meant to create an underground following, but ended up selling 2 million copies. In addition to the surprising sales, the album also garnered Ms. Stone some very notable fans – including a very passionate Tom Cruise.
