Nirvana: 25 years since first UK gig in Newcastle". BBC. Retrieved October 23, 2014. The long-standing rumor that the last Nirvana concert was shortened is not true. It was a full-length show. After Kurt's incident in Rome, the rest of the tour was rescheduled, only to be cancelled after Kurt's death. MTV Unplugged in New York. From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah. Kurt Cobain: About a Son. Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck.

It had been three long years since Lauryn Hill released her debut LP The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill when she stepped onto the MTV Unplugged stage. She had a ton of new songs, but was just learning to play guitar and clearly was in no position to be presenting them to the public. Anyone with ears can hear there are only three chords being played on every song, an anonymous industry executive told Rolling Stone in 2003. I saw it with a roomful of professionals, and someone said, ‘I feel like jumpin’ out a window. Neil Young was playing unplugged shows long before MTV dreamed up the concept, so he should have taken to the concept without any difficulty. But his initial attempt to play an official Unplugged episode at New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater in December 1992 was a complete fiasco.

Live and Loud is a live video released by American grunge band Nirvana in September 2013. It was released as part of the 20th anniversary of the band's third and final studio album, In Utero. It showcases the entirety of the band's December 1993 live performance at Pier 48, Seattle which was recorded by MTV for "Live and Loud". The DVD also contains bonus footage from other performances from the In Utero tour.

But the band wasn't exactly keen on replicating what had been done by others before. Instead the band looked at Mark Lanegan's 1990 album The Winding Sheet as a source of inspiration. The disc featured a more stripped back sound and it should be noted that both Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic made guest appearances on the Lanegan disc. But the worry was for naught as Nirvana pulled together one of the more memorable live performances in music history with the show. The lineup featured the familiar Cobain, Novoselic and Grohl, bolstered with touring guitarist Pat Smear and cellist Lori Goldston. The show opened with a beautifully reserved version of "About a Girl" from the band's Bleach album.
