The saying "a penny for your thoughts" is an English idiom simply asking people to volunteer their opinions on an issue being discussed. Though no payment actually changes hands, the phrase has become a regular part of the English vernacular. In modern usage, it is often stated as an indirect way of asking what someone is thinking about or what is bothering them. Its origins are fairly unknown though it dates back to at least the end of the Middle Ages. This phrase is basically a proposal, and the speaker is offering to pay to hear the listener's thoughts.
Pink Floyd's eleventh studio album The Wall was released in December of 1979 and is a classic and regarded as the band's most ambitious masterwork. This double album ranks up there with other noted classic rock double studio albums like The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Tommy, Exile on Main Street, Quadrophenia, Blonde on Blonde, London Calling, The White Album, Physical Graffiti, Electric Ladyland and many others. The album's three best tracks "Young Lust", "Comfortably Numb" and "Run Like Hell" were co-written by Gilmour. The Wall was a concept album which told the story of a character named Pink (a composite of Roger Waters and Floyd co-founder Syd Barrett).
The Pink Floyd that released The Division Bell in 1994 would have been unrecognizable to fans who last saw the group at the UFO Club in 1966. Only drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Richard Wright remained from that crew. Frontman Syd Barrett was a distant memory, and even Roger Waters had been out for nearly a decade. This was now David Gilmour's band, and his wife, Polly Samson, wrote the lyrics. Even though they were competing against new bands like Weezer and Green Day, the album was a modest hit. (Beavis and Butt-head, however, were highly critical of the video for "High Hopes.
