Spectrum is the debut solo album by jazz fusion drummer Billy Cobham. The album was heavily influenced by the music of Miles Davis, with whom Cobham had previously collaborated extensively, and Cobham's previous band Mahavishnu Orchestra. This Billy Cobham's first of three albums for GRP records. It has the GRP sound, which doesn't fit Cobham's style. The title "WARNING" is a sales gimmick. This album came out just as CD's were starting to become popular. The warning is that the transients from the high dynamic range of the digital recording could damage your stereo. A lot of the music on this CD is just to exercise the digital sound. The group is just a quartet. This album is just a major disappointment compared to the rest of his work. The next two GRP CD's get better. But, some of his best work are the earlier albums like Stratus and Crosswinds.
