Spectrum" and this live album "Shabazz" are my two favourite Billy Cobham albums. It's not even close actually with the rest of his discography as they fall far behind these two gems. These two albums compliment each other well as they sound quite different from one another with two very different lineups. This album has John Abercrombie on guitar and we get the Brecker brothers on sax and trumpet. Cobham is the star here though and the album begins and ends with his talent on full display

Cobham's debut album, Spectrum (1973), surprised him and his record company when it reached No. 1 on the Billboard magazine Jazz Albums chart and No. 26 on the Top 200 Albums chart. Billy Cobham live at Leverkusener Jazztage (Germany) on November 8, 2016. In 2006, Cobham released Drum 'n' Voice 2, a return to the 1970s jazz-funk sound, with guests including Brian Auger, Guy Barker, Jeff Berlin, Frank Gambale, Jan Hammer, Mike Lindup, Buddy Miles, Dominic Miller, Airto Moreira, John Patitucci, and the band Novecento. The album was produced and arranged by Pino and Lino Nicolosi for Nicolosi Productions. 1974 – Total Eclipse. 1976 – Life & Times. 1976 – Billy Cobham, George Duke: Live on Tour in Europe. 1978 – Inner Conflicts.

Album · 1975 · 8 Songs. The most important thing to understand about Billy Cobham and George Duke’s teaming is that while the pair may have been icons of fusion jazz, the music you hear on Live on Tour in Europe should be regarded, undeniably, as funk. It's funk that's sometimes refracted, convoluted, and distended, but it's funk nonetheless. It’s there in the skittering cracks of Cobham’s drums and the greasy groans of Duke’s keyboards. The Commodores may have been America’s most popular funk outfit, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a Commodores song as funky as Hip Pockets
