Koko Taylor (born Cora Anna Walton, September 28, 1928 – June 3, 2009) was an American singer whose style encompassed Chicago blues, electric blues, rhythm and blues and soul blues. Sometimes called "The Queen of the Blues", she was known for her rough, powerful vocals. She left Tennessee for Chicago in 1952 with her husband, Robert "Pops" Taylor, a truck driver

Chicago, of course, has long been known for its muscular blues that traveled up the Mississippi and its blues shouters, and Taylor (1928-2009) was the greatest Chicago female blues shouter of them all. She is the queen for sure, Chicago blues legend Koko Taylor, and she is in excellent form on this 1987 album, her first (and so far her only) live LP. There are no big surprises here, but Taylor displays the versatility of her magnificent growl of a voice on a fine set of slow soul tunes, swaggering blues numbers, and driving R&B. guitarists Michael Robinson and Eddie King are convincing without hogging the spotlight, and the rhythm section of bassist Jerry Murphy and drummer.
