The next chapter of Neil Young’s ongoing archival series will spotlight a concert he played with the Stray Gators at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on February 5th, 1973. Titled simply TUSCALOOSA, it will come out June 7th on a single CD and a three-sided vinyl album with etched artwork on side four. It’s from the period right around Harvest and Tonight’s the Night, Young told Rolling Stone earlier this year. It’s like those mellow songs with an edge. We don’t like to release a lot of songs on many albums, so ‘On The Way Home’ went by the wayside, he wrote. ‘The Loner’ was just not good enough.
Which brings us to Neil Young. Neil didn’t like bootleg records, not in the least. The film below-our understanding is that Young went to the store, on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, while making his film Journey Through the Past-is all about what happened one day in late 1971 (we can tell the date by looking at the Dec. 1971 Pete Townshend issue of Rolling Stone on sale) and discovered unreleased Neil Young music being sold. We won’t give you any spoilers. Watch it and see for yourself. It’s pretty extraordinary stuff, a morality tale of sorts
Neil Young has designed Archives as nothing less than an immersive multimedia autobiography, an interactive experience where the music, text, video, and pictures feed off each other, creating a virtual journey through Neil's past

1) Neil Young talks to the audience a lot (something you don't necessarily see at a Neil Young concert) so you feel like you're really there. 2) Some of the best songs on the album are actually from some of his lesser-known albums (for example, "See the Sky About to Rain" from On the Beach, and "Journey Through the Past" from Time Fades Away). Lets make it 70. Neil Young live at Massey Hall 1971 is a flawless acoustic set, that predates "Harvest", and we actually get to hear many tunes like "Heart of Gold', pre-album release. The sound quality is impeccable and crystal clear, and considering that this concert was recorded in 1971, makes it that much more impressive.
