Pierre Moerlen's Gong was an instrumental jazz fusion band led by French drummer Pierre Moerlen which developed as an offshoot of the psychedelic progressive rock band Gong founded and led by Daevid Allen. It was notable for the prominent use of mallet percussion, particularly vibraphone, in a jazz-rock context

Expresso II finds Pierre Moerlen's Gong at their peak. Like their previous studio release, Gazeuse!, the album is instrumental, the music is very polished, the sound very clean. The first two tracks, "Heavy Tune" and "Golden Dilemma," are the highlights here, partially due to the fact that the rest of the cuts all blend together and sound quite similar
Expresso II is an album by Pierre Moerlen's Gong, issued in 1978. Expresso II is a companion piece to the band's previous release, Gazeuse! (called Expresso in North America) . Ros Smith, David (2011). Retrieved 24 June 2011.
Although the album was issued by Virgin Records under the "Gong" name for contractual reasons, and the name "Pierre Moerlen's Gong" would not be adopted for a few more months, the lineup.

Although these did not yet use the "Pierre Moerlin's Gong" name, stylistically they really belong here more than under the Gong entry. Shamal is a transitional album. You-era stalwarts Mike Howlett, Steve Hillage, and Didier Malherbe were still present. Expresso is a stunning achievement in the musical sub-genre of fusion.
Pierre Moerlen continued to pursue the similar musical direction under the name PIERRE MOERLEN'S GONG after this album. This makes the last GONG studio album of the continued career of the band during the 70s, and it could hardly be the better farewell party. Just as a starter, this album wears the number II after its name, because Gong's previous album Gazeuse was marketed Stateside as Expresso. By the time of release of this album, Gong didn't have much to do with the unit that had recorded the RGI trilogy: they were more of rhythm section waiting for frontmen to come in the forefront. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't call this line-up Sly & Robbie (they're much too good for that), but let's face it: three percussionists and a bassist make the core of the Gong.
expresso) 14 posts 83 followers 194 following. These sounds are the only match with explosive plates like those of the aforementioned Expresso II or Gongzilla's Suffer. Partly because the majority of the compositions are based on the more jazzy Sandiford, Decadence has a subtle, sultry jazz atmosphere. This is reinforced by the inventive, but nowhere dominating drum and percussion parts of veteran and Gong family member François Causse.
