A guillotine (/ˈɡɪlətiːn/; French: ) is an apparatus designed for efficiently carrying out executions by beheading. The device consists of a tall, upright frame in which a weighted and angled blade is raised to the top and suspended. The condemned person is secured with stocks at the bottom of the frame, positioning the neck directly below the blade.

The guillotine is one of European history's most bloody icons. Although designed with the best of intentions, this hugely recognizable machine soon became associated with events that have overshadowed both its heritage and its development: the French Revolution. Yet, despite such a high profile and chilling reputation, histories of la guillotine remain muddled, often differing on quite basic details

The name guillotine dates to the 1790s and the French Revolution, but similar execution machines had already been in existence for centuries. A beheading device called the planke was used in Germany and Flanders during the Middle Ages, and the English had a sliding axe known as the Halifax Gibbet, which may have been lopping off heads all the way back to antiquity. The French guillotine was likely inspired by two earlier machines: the Renaissance-era mannaia from Italy, and the notorious Scottish Maiden, which claimed the lives of some 120 people between the 16th and 18th centuries

The Guillotine carries a Sunglow Type 2 Large Laser in its left arm as the primary weapon. While the Sunglow laser is an excellent weapon, there are issues with the fiber optic power cabling, which runs from the power converter hidden deep within the 'Mech out to the emitter. Running near the surface of the underarm, it is all too easy for the cable to bind when the weapon is raised over the 'Mech's head. Like the larger lasers the ExoStar IIs consist of a power supply well-hidden within the Guillotine connected to a firing mechanism by fiber optic cables, although the eight cables which power the medium lasers don't suffer from the Sunglow's snagging issue. The final weapon on the design is a single Coventry-6 SRM-6 with one ton of reloads in the right torso.

The device consists of two upright posts surmounted by a crossbeam and grooved so as to guide an oblique-edged knife, the back of which is heavily weighted to make it fall forcefully upon (and slice through) the neck of a prone victim. Previous to the French Revolution, similar devices were in use in Scotland, England, and various other European countries, often for the execution of criminals of noble birth.

Each guillotine takes from 100 to 400 hours to complete and is made of up to 500 individual parts. The finished guillotines are signed, numbered and shipped with a brief History of the guillotine and detailed assembly instructions. My guillotines are incredible conversation pieces that will draw a lot of attention. Guillotines also make unusual cigar cutters. Guillotine models can be built from many types of wood including oak, rosewood, mahogany, maple and teak. 00 for a 1792 revolutionary model guillotine

The guillotine had been in use in some parts of Germany long before Hitler came to power. The Rhine province had introduced it as far back as 1798. The province of Bavaria used it from 1854, Saxony and Wuerttemberg from 1853 and 1854 respectively and Baden from 1857. He was released from prison in 2001 and has written a much acclaimed book about his life. French women executed.
