Barrett is the second and final studio album of new material released by former Pink Floyd frontman Syd Barrett. Recording began at Abbey Road Studios on 26 February 1970, and lasted for 15 sessions until 21 July. The album was produced by Pink Floyd's guitarist David Gilmour and keyboardist Richard Wright, who also contributed on bass guitar and keyboards respectively, along with previous Madcap contributor Jerry Shirley on drums.

Syd Barrett is a 1974 double-album pairing of Syd Barrett's two solo albums, The Madcap Laughs and Barrett, both originally released in the UK in 1970. Disc 1 – The Madcap Laughs. During the summer of 1965, Barrett had his first acid trip in the garden of his friend Dave Gale, with Ian Moore and Storm Thorgerson.

Syd Barrett (Official). These three recordings would appear on Syd's solo debut The Madcap Laughs. The album was named so by David, likely from the misheard lyric "mad cat" from Octopus. Interestingly, not long before, Octopus had been completed, under the name Clowns and Jugglers, over two far-inbetween sessions. Malcolm Jones as the producer and Syd had made the original backing track in July of 1968.

The sessions for the album Barrett started on February 26, 1970, with David Gilmour as producer, Richard Wright on keyboards and Humble Pie's Jerry Shirley on drums. Sessions in April and July followed, and the album was released in November 1970, the last official Syd Barrett album, bar compilations. Syd undertook very little musical activity between 1968 and 1972 outside the studio. Syd made one last appearance on BBC Radio, recording three songs from Barrett on February 16, 1971.

On his second solo album, Barrett was joined by Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley and Pink Floyd members Rick Wright (organ) and Dave Gilmour (guitar). Gilmour and Wright acted as producers as well. Instrumentally, the result is a bit fuller and smoother than the first album, although it's since been revealed that Gilmour and Wright embellished these songs as best they could without much involvement from Barrett, who was often unable or unwilling to perfect his performance. The songs, however, are just as fractured as on his debut, if not more so.
