The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle is the soundtrack album of the film of the same name by the Sex Pistols. By the time the soundtrack was being prepared, Johnny Rotten (Lydon) had left the band and refused to participate in the project, so the "proper" Sex Pistols tracks were done by taking Lydon's vocals from the October 1976 demo session recordings and rerecording their instrumental tracks (done by Paul Cook and Steve Jones).

The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle.

The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle was the playground Pistols album. The person who owned it never had to explain the word Bollocks to their parents, for one thing. It was the soundtrack to a film that, at that point, was still a big deal.

The Swindle was former manager Malcolm McLaren’s fictionalised satire of the Sex Pistols story, filmed after John Rotten’s departure from the band in 1978; and without his participation. Steve Jones, Sid Vicious, Ronnie Biggs, Malcolm McLaren and Tadpole Tudor are among the vocalists on the album. The album also includes rehearsal cover versions with John Rotten dating back to 1976. The Great Rock n Roll Swindle’ has since been reissued countless times.

Some notes regarding the UMC 2012 CD release.God Save The Queen (Symphony) Malcolm McClaren's voice over track has been removed.Anarchy In The UK (This is the 'Spunk' Demo version in place of the 'Bollocks' LP version)I Wanna Be Me (Appeared on the original release in 1985 but is not on the 1993 CD version.)No One Is Innocent (The ending of the song overlaps into the next track C'mon Everybody.)Whatcha Gonna Do About it (has a tiny bit of Rotten talk before the song not present on other versions.)

This CD version differs from many other versions of this album, due to track1 'God Save The Queen (Symphony)' has no Malcolm McClaren voice over, it's a purely instrumental track.

Deorro

This is definitely the best CD issue of this album, as an album it gets knocked a lot but there are loads of brilliant tracks on here and anyone who appreciates Punk needs to have it in their collection. I think that the track 5 version of Anarchy In The U.K. here is better than the original single version as it's much more raw and Rottens vocal is more violent.
