Hopelessness is the debut solo album by British-American artist Anohni (formerly known as Antony Hegarty), released on 6 May 2016 on Secretly Canadian, Rough Trade, and Hostess. Featuring co-production by Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never, the album departs from the chamber pop style of Anohni's previous work with Antony and the Johnsons, instead exploring an electronic sound and engaging directly with political and environmental themes in the form of protest songs.

I thought of Anohni's HOPELESSNESS there. Both Anohni and Poitras have constructed monumental works this year dealing in the atrocity of post-9/11 America-drone warfare, mass surveillance, violent masculinity. These are the depths into which HOPELESSNESS demands that you swim or drown. And this leads to another tenet of HOPELESSNESS: ecofeminism. On the 2012 Johnsons live album Cut the World there was a poetic speech called "Future Feminism," which situated Anohni unmistakably into this context-the basic idea that feminism must extend its liberationist ethos from gender, race, class, and physical abilities into nature.

HOPELESSNESS by ANOHNI, released 06 May 2016 1. Drone Bomb Me 2. 4 Degrees 3. Watch Me 4. Execution 5. I Don't Love You Anymore 6. Obama 7. Violent Men 8. Why Did You Separate Me from the Earth? 9. Crisis 10. Hopelessness 1. ANOHNI released 4 DEGREES, the first single from her upcoming album HOPELESSNESS, to support the Paris climate conference this past December. The song emerged earlier last year in live performances. As discussed by ANOHNI: "I have grown tired of grieving for humanity, and I also thought I was not being entirely honest by pretending that I am not a part of the problem," she said.

Produced by Oneohtrix Point Never. How did I become The mother of this son? The face and mind And hands of virulence? I, who curled in cave and moss I, who gathered wood for fire And tenderly embraced How did I become a virus? Hopelessness I feel the hopelessness Hopelessness I feel the hopelessness

Hopelessness ‎(LP, Album, 180 + CD, Album + 12", Ltd, Dou). Secretly Canadian, Secretly Canadian.

Hopelessness (stylized as HOPELESSNESS) is the début solo album from Anohni, the lead singer of Antony and the Johnsons, released on Secretly Canadian and Rough Trade Records. It features co-production by musicians Ross Birchard (aka Hudson Mohawke) and Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never), with additional production and engineering by Paul Corley. Bianca & Sierra Casady (aka CocoRosie) provide additional vocals on 'Violent Men'. Discover more music, concerts, videos, and pictures with the largest catalogue online at Last.

As befits a protest album, Anohni ditches the rarefied chamber arrangements of previous releases for a more modern, populist EDM approach, furnished by producers Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke: announcing its release in February, she described it as an electronic record with some sharp teeth - not least in Obama, where she criticises the president for betraying virtues and punishing whistleblowers, intoning hi. So it is too with other issues, Anohni criticising herself for greed and selfishness in songs such as Watch Me and Hopelessness ; while in Execution, she aligns the US with North Korea, Saudi Arabia and China for its eagerness to execute.

No quality issues on my copy. Ran it through my Record Doctor V before playing the first time. Very quiet pressing, excellent dynamics, imaging is great.

bought a used copy (that was NM but had a scratch on the B-side so that might be the reason) but this is one of the worst pressings I've ever purchased! Constant tone and volume change almost sounding like it's a warped record even when it's not. Definitely a letdown because this is like one of my favorite records of all time. I even changed my needle and tested the copy on a friends turntable and it was just terrible!

The problem I have with this album is not of a musical nature and not even related to its packaging. While some may argue that this would then not belong here, it absolutely does to me. I find it remarkable that while Ms. Hegarty managed to criticise a lot of things in this album, the question of whether the cost of attempting to achieve a safe environment for everyone is bearable being an ancient one, I do not think that there is any criticism directed towards the very beatmaker on this album for his assumably profitable involvement with a certain Mr. West, whose blatant chauvinism has been rewarded not only financially through sales, artistically through a series of high album ratings, particularly by the medium who rated this album here rather highly too, and interpersonally through blind admiration and not least a relationship. That in itself may perhaps not leave you hopeless, but it may very well leave you thinking.

realyl very truly incredibly and profoundly insightful. have you considered writing a book, or perhaps reading one, like, for instance, Roland Barthes' Death of the Author, just a suggestion

Love the multisided 12" that this edition includes. Such a rare gem. Fantastic pressing as well!
