Popcorn" is an early synth-pop instrumental, composed by Gershon Kingsley in 1969 and first appearing on his album Music to Moog By. It was recorded at the Audio Fidelity Records label in New York City. The title may refer to the short staccato or sharp "popping" sound used, or to pop music and its being "corny", . The title is generally written as one word, although some single sleeves (such as the one illustrated) present it as two words, "Pop Corn".

In fact many would find this album tedious listening and perhaps even laughable. If you're interested in pop relics of the psychedelic era then you might want to explore this one. I won't say that it's bad because it is well done.

This record seems not just a producer experiment about the use of the new electronic instruments, plenty of horrible moog covers of famous or classical songs. There's a totally different musical approach here; something that can be compared only with the artistic vision that will be developed durin the 70's. This is a record of early electronic mixed with experimental vocal inserts and folk or psychedelic rock. For me this pastiche still sounds fresh and interesting after fifthy years from his realization.

After wondering what this album sounded like for years, words cannot express how disappointed I was when I finally heard it. Anyone expecting the kitschy electronic funk of 'Popcorn' or 'Hey, hey' or 'Shank' will be as shock as I. The inclusion of vocals and narrations from a cast of the whitest folks this side of The Lawrence Welk Show pushes this album well into the realms of the laughable and, in my opinion, the unlistenable. Too bad - waste of a truly awesome sleeve design as well.

the only laughable thing here is your tasteless review

deejaydubla while you are correct about this LP being a bit on the square side, it should be noted that the Moog's pioneers were white guys who mostly made Electronic interpretations of Classical Music, so in a way, this was groundbreaking - and i for one like the spooky take of "Sound Of Silence" on this Lp quite a lot! the Moog in itself isn't exactly a "funky" instrument, but a quirky one.
