Bill Bruford ended his brief affair with . and condensed his original outfit to a quartet, releasing a second album of sinewy, celebratory jazz/rock fusion, One of a Kind. Good-humored twists and turns abound in the music, punctuated by Bruford's steadying if slightly subversive rhythms, Allan Holdsworth's flashes of fire, Jeff Berlin's insistent bass, and Dave Stewart's remarkably colorful keyboards

But I do not see the full album here. All our ideas formed about the world come from people before us, including you. We subconsciously form our ideas about the world from the people we meet and read up about, it's almost impossible to not do so. Even then, an idea that we form by ourselves was most likely already thought up by another individual, or some variant of said idea already touched upon by a philosopher. If we were to try to trace back where an idea was originally thought, it would be an absolutely arduous task, an infinite regress of sorts, which would be a useless endeavor.

Amanda Parsons & Barbara Gaskin: backing vocals on "Hell's Bells". Eddie Jobson: violin on "Forever Until Sunday".
Bruford resumed activity in his own group to release One of a Kind (1979). Almost entirely instrumental, the album contains some spoken lines by Bruford during the introduction to "Fainting in Coils". Subsequent gigs spawned the live releases Rock Goes to College and The Bruford Tapes (1979). He was always really free thinking about electronic drums and things like that and I always appreciated that a lot, especially at one point when all of a sudden it became so uncool to use electronic drums, but I just thought, 'Ah, man, everyone should do what pleases themselves'. So yes, he was a big influence in that way.
