Lydia Lunch (born Lydia Anne Koch, June 2, 1959) is an American singer, poet, writer, actress and self-empowerment speaker. Her career was spawned by the New York no wave scene. The Boston Phoenix named Lunch one of the ten most influential performers of the 1990s.
Released on her self-owned label, Hysterie is a two-disc, one-decade retrospective of Lydia Lunch's diverse musical career. The set is split into four distinct segments, the first covering the influential "aural terror" band Teenage Jesus & the Jerks.
8 Eyed Spy is up next, another half dozen songs that see Lydia Lunch beginning to step into her better-known persona. The decade-long gap that follows is disappointing; Lunch's '80s, after all, were a delight to behold. But three performances with Rowland Howard from 1991 and 1993 restate the brilliance of their Shotgun Wedding collaboration and, from thereon, partnerships with Mark Cunningham, Die Haut, Terry Edwards and more flash past with brutal aplomb.
