Produced by The Smiths. Album Meat Is Murder. Meat Is Murder Lyrics. Meat Is Murder, with its simulated bovine cries and buzz-saw guitars, took vegetarianism to a new height in popular media. At the time when this song was recorded, animal rights weren’t as mainstream of an issue as they are now.

The album I have chosen is 1985's Meat Is Murder. The Smiths' eponymous debut is their most astonishing record, The Queen Is Dead their best, but Meat Is Murder is my favourite: freewheeling, exciting, political, with Morrissey's words and Marr's music interlacing perfectly. It starts as if in the middle of something – you're already part of this

Meat Is Murder is the second studio album by the English rock band the Smiths. Meat Is Murder was more strident and political than its predecessor, including the pro-vegetarian title track (Morrissey forbade the rest of the group from being photographed eating meat), and the anti-corporal punishment "The Headmaster Ritual".

With their second proper album Meat Is Murder, the Smiths begin to branch out and diversify, while refining the jangling guitar pop of their debut. In other words, it catches the group at a crossroads, unsure quite how to proceed

The Smiths were gaining fame in England at the time of this album's release. Their first album wasn't exactly a roaring success, but it is now recognized as a pillar of alt/indie music, one of the "required albums" of the genre. The album did sell fairly well though, and expectations were high for their second album.
