Led Zeppelin's 1972 Japanese Tour was the second and final concert tour of Japan by the English rock band. The tour commenced on 2 October and concluded on 10 October 1972. This tour took place shortly following the recording of the band's fifth album, Houses of the Holy. Two tracks from the album were played live for first time, namely "The Song Remains the Same" and "The Rain Song". For these tracks, Jimmy Page used his characteristic Gibson EDS-1275 double-neck guitar.
Led Zeppelin are about to reissue their 2003 live record, How the West Was Won, but Jimmy Page said more recordings of the legendary group in concert are on the way. In a recent interview, the guitarist said a new archival live project is due this year, with more to come later. I can't give the game away, but there's a recording that’s another multi-track that we'll release, he told Planet Rock (via Music Week). It's so different to all the other things that are out there.
HOW THE WEST WAS WON highlights the best performances from Led Zeppelin’s legendary concerts at the Los Angeles Forum and Long Beach Arena on June 25 and 27, 1972. Melded together and sequenced to replicate a single concert from beginning to end, the three-CD collection captures the band at the height of its formidable powers. Melded together and sequenced to replicate a single concert from beginning to end, the four-LP collection captures the band at the height of its formidable powers. Standouts include a 25-plus minute version of Dazed And Confused and a 21-minute medley based around Whole Lotta Love.
Another number off the forthcoming album followed. Dancing Days," starting with some intricate guitar from Page and developing into a wondrous climax. After Zep had launched through "Dazed and Confused", then the tender "Stairway To Heaven," you simply knew you were seeing a completely ultimate band. The band rolls throughout the whole set, have a lot of fun (Plant introduced Misty Mountain Hop as My Brain Hurts according to Monty Python sketch), and presented a nice version of Dazed And Confused featuring some funky interludes from the three instrumentalists. The end medley is short and sweet and Heartbreaker flies away!
