Purity Ring is a Canadian electronic pop band from Edmonton, Alberta, formed in 2010. The band consists of vocalist Megan James and producer Corin Roddick. They released their debut album Shrines in 2012 to critical acclaim, followed by Another Eternity in 2015. The band were originally members of the band Gobble Gobble. While on tour with them, Roddick began experimenting with electronic production and beat-making. James was asked to sing on a track called "Ungirthed", thus forming Purity Ring

Purity Ring has crafted an album in Shrines that stands head and shoulders above the works of their peers. The contrast between Purity Ring's two halves is special and compelling, but Shrines goes over best when Roddick's reverent sound and James' lustful fury synchronize and break you off properly, womb-stem-style.

Purity Ring is better than that. Yet while much of the album’s elements might not entirely seem out of place on a Pictureplane album, or even more accurately a Clams Casino instrumental mixtape, they’re not so much ends in and of themselves as they are means to constructing a more alluringly dark and ambient pop record.
