The charismatic Scales led the Seven Sounds band, co-wrote '70s hits "Disco Lady" and "Love-Itis," and was even sampled by the Beastie Boys. What happened is he pulled some of the curious white kids into the black nightclubs, and vice versa. Inadvertently he created a more intermingled town through his shows, and in a city like this, that was important work to be doing. Scales recorded his first singles with Wisconsin-based labels Cuca Records and Magic Touch Records. Following the release of "Get Down," he signed in 1969 with the famed Chess Records in Chicago, home for Muddy Waters and Etta James.
