Edgar Rice Burroughs (novel), Milton Subotsky (screenplay). Unfortunately the thing is rather more powerful than expected and they end up in an enormous cavern at the centre of the earth. The travellers decide they can be some help, the more so as at least one of the slaves is very eye-catching. Written by Jeremy Perkins {J-26}.

At the Earth’s Core is one of the gleaming jewels of this epoch. It ranks among the handful of early SF masterpieces that enthusiasts can read over and over again to relive the thrill of limitless adventure that reaches levels of the sublime. It is quintessential Burroughs. The imaginative qualities of At the Earth’s Core are the major source of its appeal. But what immediately stands out is the pacing. Modern critical opinion of Edgar Rice Burroughs allows him great imagination, but doesn’t offer the same generosity to his writing style. Yet in his finest books Burroughs could craft stunning passages that sing with Romanticism and the vastness of the possible. At the Earth’s Core, set in a dream-like land without time or edges, is powerfully suited for beautiful writing: The fascination of speculation was strong upon me.
Edgar Rice Burroughs' 1914 pulp fantasy epic comes to life! Follow David Innes and Abner Perry as they take their "iron mole" five hundred miles below the Earth's crust to a world known as Pellucidar. as well as the lovely Dian the Beautiful! More than simply an epic adventure, At the Earth's Core is also one of Burroughs' most compelling love stories.
Along the way he battles monsters and eternal sunlight before saving the day in his own inimical fashion. Tarzan crosses over into Earth's inner world, Pellicidar. So far I've come across three types of Edgar Rice Borroughs. 1) Tarzan is the classic, a truly iconic character creation - inventing him and his world was a stroke of genius. 2) John Carter - here Burroughs brought a richly imagined Mars to life - most of the creatures and customs are highly original - for that, a fun read, even if John Carter himself is boring compared to Tarzan. 3) As for Pellucidar - this felt weakest. It features basi Tarzan crosses over into Earth's inner world, Pellicidar.
