Temple of the Dog is the only studio album by the American rock band Temple of the Dog, released on April 16, 1991, through A&M Records. The album is a tribute to Andrew Wood, the former lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone, who died on March 19, 1990, of a heroin overdose. The album has been certified platinum by the RIAA in the United States.

This album is the only studio album by supergroup Temple of the Dog, released on April 16, 1991. The album is a tribute to Andrew Wood, the former lead singer of Mother Love Bone, who died on March 19, 1990 of a heroin overdose. The songs were written by Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, Wood’s former friend and roommate, and count with Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, Wood’s band mates Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard, and two guys who together with the last two would form Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready. Temple of the Dog hit shelves on April 16th, 1991. Temple of the Dog played two tiny Seattle gigs in late 1990, but there was no tour. The album went on to sell more than a million copies. Throughout the Nineties and 2000s Cornell would occasionally come out at Pearl Jam shows to sing Hunger Strike. Once Matt Cameron became Pearl Jam’s drummer in 1998, every such occasion became a complete Temple of the Dog reunion. The group played a four-song set at Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary shows in 2011.
